I'm on my last ARC day of my base fitness phase, following the "experienced trainee" schedule in the RCTM book - Tuesday I did 3x30 min ARC, Wednesday I did 3x25 min ARC and today (Thursday) I plan to to 2x30 min ARC. I requested that the gym add some extra traversing holds, since initially the traverse felt too hard, due to some overhanging sections. I feel like I'm right below MSS - not too pumped, resting on my arms/shaking out semi-often. Although, I do feel myself getting tired at the end of the second and third sets, typically. I'm concerned though, the day after ARC'ing I feel pretty wrecked. When I'm ARC'ing I definitely feel like I'm breathing semi-hard, like on a casual run, and sweating - although I am sweating profusely (gym has to be around 85 degrees).
I guess my question is: should I be this wrecked after ARC'ing? I'm worried that I'm ARC'ing above MSS, preventing the desired stimulus.

That does sound unusual. How old are you? I've never ARCed in those conditions, so you dehydration may be a factor. Are you drinking plenty of fluids after (and between sets)?

I guess I could drink more fluids between sets. I'm definitely dehydrated at the end and am chugging water when I get home. I'm 28. Live in Austin, yesterday the car read 88 degrees and the gym had the doors open.

Ok. At my age (38) I feel pretty wrecked after any long workout (like a hard HB workout or a long crag day). But that shouldn't be an issue for you for a while I would try drinking more, between sets and after. If you're not getting good sleep, then get good sleep

When I ARC on steep terrain it involves more big muscle groups than typical sprint climbing. I feel a deep tiredness in my shoulders and back. It does sound like your climate would dehydrate you.

In retrospect, I think I may have been ARC'ing either too much or on too difficult of terrain. My ring finger A2 pulley is pretty aggravated, just from ARC'ing - which seems very surprising to me. Obviously the holds have changed, but I did the same traversing at the gym as I had done on my two previous rock prodigy base fitness cycles. So I guess it may have been more than just the heat that was causing me to be so wrecked the next day, although I felt like I was right below MSS... Either way, I guess it is a good learning experience. I did my first HB workout on 5/30, and my ring finger A2 is still pretty sore to the touch/pressure at the base of the finger. I plan to do my second HB workout tonight, and if it gets worse I guess I'll have to considerably remove weight on my semi-crimp grips... bummer. rockprodigytraining.proboards.com/thread/592/rphb-grips-tufas
