It seems as if My two favorite things are like opposing magnets, not willing to connect any which way.
If you have only been climbing for three years you should still be able to improve playing hockey 2x a week. Though I suspect since your posting on this forum maybe your rate of improvement is not to your liking? Anyway, when you reach a point where you start to plateau you can cut the hockey back to one day a week and still continue to improve. Though, if you have a regular 5 day work day, and climb on weekends during your performance phase I would absolutely cut the Friday session out then. But since you live in New Jersey I'm guessing you only really have spring and fall to send anything that matters. So if you cut out 3 sessions in the spring and 3 in fall its not a big deal relative to the 104 sessions per yr.
Personally, I have been climbing for 13 yrs, I'm in my thirties, I climbed my first 5.13 last year, something I never thought I would do, I'm currently breaking all my PRs, so I suspect I will have an even better year this year. Ultimately my prospective is that I'm gratefully I can still play hockey. Even if it is "only" 1 night a week ,I get to get out make plays, have a good time, while improving my climbing, which I will be able to do at a higher level for longer and is ultimately more rewarding to me. I guess if I felt I had to be climbing 5.14 already I would have already cut the hockey out. Like myself and others have said it all comes back to priorities.
