I'm curious as to everyone's perception of the difficulty of their hangboard workouts. On a scale of 1 to 10?

The first one of the season feels like a 5. The 2nd - 4th ones feel like 6's or 7's. 5th usually feels like an 8, 6th and 7th like a 9. 8th, 9th, and 10th usually feel like 10's. This of course depends on how many workouts I give myself to set new PR's and assumes that I'm reaching previous PR's on the 7th workout, which doesn't always happen.

I think what Jesse describes is about ideal. I find that it takes some precision and luck to get the right starting weights for a season and then paying close attention to how you ramp up each grip to inspire the well times maximum intensity around 7th workout or so.
Sometimes if I get the wrong weight, I fail too early in the sets, and the intensity never gets to the higher levels, I just hit impossible too soon and miss out on the maximal effort.

my cycle is probably fairly similar to jesse's. overall it seems like i get a 'second wind' around my 5th or 6th workout, where i feel unstoppable, and then the 7th and 8th are ultrabrutal.

Same as Jesse. Funny thing is that I really look forward to HB1 and HB2 (and even HB3) because I know they will go well (if I got my starting weight right). I usually dread HB8 and HB9 because I know they will be brutal, but then after they are done, I usually think it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. HB10 is weird for me because I know I'm done, so I just do the best I can and don't stress as much as with HB8 and HB9...

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. 1 and 2 didn't feel too bad me, but perhaps that's to be expected.

I did +5lbs on the 3rd set of the shallowest IM pocket lastnight and +10 lbs on the wide pinch, 3rd set. That was workout #9 of this season. I'm pretty sure I woke up the whole apartment complex with how loud I was screaming so I think I'm going to put the intensity of that session at 11. Still failing at bodyweight on that damn thin crimp though. Lastnight I failed at 6 seconds on the last rep...so agonizingly close.

Nice, Jesse, I so want to get to BW on the thin crimp. Got down to -15 last cycle in pretty warm conditions. Hoping to hit BW this fall during a cooler weather phase. Couldn't help think of this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOO5S4vxi0o

The stonehenge scene kills me every time. Do millennials know what we're talking about?

I'm ashamed to admit that I have not seen that movie... It was made before I was born! But this has motivated me to watch it.

The stonehenge scene kills me every time. Do millennials know what we're talking about? It wasn't that the band was off, it was that there was a miniature Stonehenge in danger of being crushed by dwarves...

If you're a metal fan at all, and you have not seen Spinal Tap, you need to drop whatever you're doing and watch it.

Pretty much all of my workouts feel like a 10. Maybe I'm just a pansy with low pain tolerance though.
I've noticed a pattern where the first workout doesn't feel too bad, and then on the second workout I get completely shut down. It's always really demoralizing until the third workout when I usually complete all my sets.
Also I realize it's summer right now but I'm just not seeing any improvement over my last strength cycle. In fact I think I'm exactly where I was last time around. Hopefully it's just the heat, I can't understand why else I wouldn't see any hangboard improvement from one season to the next.
