I am trying to plan my training schedule for this summer, with a trip to Kalymnos at the end of the summer. From experience, should I try to end my power phase right before I travel to Kalymnos, and by nature of the routes in Kalymnos, I'll develop power endurance when I'm there redpointing routes. Or should i start PE a few weeks (2 or 3) prior to leaving for Kalymnos, with some power maintenance added, similar to what Mike did this spring (http://rockclimberstrainingmanual.com/2015/03/10/delivered-from-purgatory/).
Thanks for the insight.
Cheers, Sean

How long will you be in Kalymnos? You want to be in Kalymnos for as much of your peak as possible. If you do 2 weeks of PE and then start your PE/Performance phase you'll be peaking by week 3 or 4 and should be able to maintain your peak for another 3 weeks or so after that. So you're coming off your performance peak within 6 weeks of finishing your Power phase.

Jesse, thanks for the response. I'll be there for 14 days (12 available climbing days due to travel days). So you recommend doing 2 weeks of PE before going, since I wont be there that long, and the Kalymnos routes are typically pumpy by nature?

No worries, happens all too often If you're there for (only) 14 days, you definitely want to be in tip-top shape from day 1. So, be sure to start your PE training 2-3 weeks before you depart.

No worries, happens all too often I'm an identical twin as well. Even my dad still calls me by the other way too often. Thanks for the PE insight. Sean
