I know the rock prodigy program is based upon the principle of periodization, which will maximize performance during a period at the end of a training cycle even though performance will not be maximized at earlier stages of the cycle. But if you don't have any trips or short-term projects, would it be more effective to do the same cycle and just skip the performance phase or do a shorter non-linear maintenance periodization cycle repeatedly until you do have a trip planned?

I'm generally skipping performance phases this year as well. For sure I will skip next season performance phase. I think there are a lot of benefits to periodization other than peaking at a specific time. It also helps prevent plateauing by causing constant but variable muscle stimulus.

I think LP or Block Periodization is superior to NLP for producing long term gains, regardless of your short term objectives.
There are a bunch of threads floating around here about skipping performance phases if you want some more information.
