Hi all, Looking at building my first freestanding home woody but I have no construction skills whatsoever. As such I need to draw up a design for a carpenter but my pen and paper efforts are laughable . Whats the most user friendly free design software? I've had a go at sketchup but its defeated me. For background the wall would be a freestanding single plane board similar to a moonboard with the following dimensions (sorry for metric): 3m wide, .25m tall kickboard, 3.15m tall climbing panel, 35 degree overhang. Total height floor to top around 2.58m. Would be building it in a cube for structural support but also to add some shelving to the backside for storage. Any help would be great guys and gals!

Have you watched the video I have on YouTube about building a Freestanding woody? Did you message me about this? Dimensions sound similar to what someone suggested to me online? What are you hoping that designing it in CAD or some other software will help with? I think the hardest part is determining the right angles around where the joists meet the base.I went pen and paper and used this calculator a lot - www.cleavebooks.co.uk/scol/calrtri.htmCheck out the thread I also wrote here, in addition to the videos I threw up on YT - rockprodigytraining.proboards.com/thread/1431/freestanding-40-deg-woody-buildUpdating as I didn't see the carpenter comments. I think you should be able to give pretty rough plans to a carpenter and they should be able to make recommendations about the joints, how best to do them, how to reinforce the structure etc.

A Climbing Wall is a rather simple structure. Any good contractor should be able to build one from a couple pictures or a You Tube video. Find some pictures during construction showing the framing etc.
