Hello,
I'm a beginner climber with aspiring goals to multipitch mountains with my partner. Recently we started following the protocols from rctm and we're on our first beginners cycle but I still have a loads of weight to lose (about 15kilos). From the book I understand that in the strength fase it's not productive to cut, would you guys then eat at maintenance or a bit above to gain? Also in the power phase I see there's some strength training, would it be counterproductive to cut in that phase as well?

If you’re a beginner climber I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Losing 15 kilos will give you a MUCH larger benefit in your climbing than any strength gains you will see, and as a beginner you will gain more from technique practice than strength anyway.
If I were you I’d prioritize climbing mileage and good diet above all else, and doing some general strength training like pull-ups and pushups would be helpful as well. I wouldn’t worry too much about hangboarding since, again, losing weight will give you MUCH faster results.

Thanks for the advice, to prioritize biggest benefit does make sense. For now i'll focus on technique and losing weight first. As for the hangboarding i'm still a bit curious to try it out once the strength fase comes.
