I wonder the same thing. It does not seem possible/believable to me that one could be getting any stronger if your "all time PRs" seemed to have been hit in the past, and every hangboard phase ends up essentially the same or 5-10lbs off. Maybe a stray new max here and there on a grip that came immediately after a miserably failed grip that was more of a rest than a true set.
Though, it also does not seem possible that you can break through PRs by starting the HB phase with lighter weights, however that has been proven many times now!

Interesting questions. I can say that I've had HB phases where I haven't even matched prior PR's and gone on to send my goal route for the season. Maybe I'm getting stronger, or maybe I'm just getting better. I have a hard time, psychologically, with HB sessions where I don't complete my sets. It's much more of an issue while hangboarding than with any other form of training. The think I keep looking to, though, is that I keep sending harder routes. Something I'm doing is obviously working.

Its true that's the bottom line - did you send? But I'll be curious to see how my max hang and campus PRs look at the end of this cycle... I'm hoping new PRs in repeaters will translate to new PRs across the board. We shall see...

Well, I just about finished my max hangs cycle (Lopez protocol). I matched my old P.R but did not exceed it (12 sessions of max hangs, coupled with limit bouldering the day after). So in pure numerical terms, the PRs in my repeaters phase did not automatically lead to PRs in my max hangs phase. The wrinkle to this is that though my numbers didn't change, other qualitative aspects did - my form was better and I was a bit more consistent with the weight I could hang. This may simply be because I'd adjusted to a new grip (this was my second max hangs cycle using a half crimp instead of an open handed grip; my first cycle of hanging half crimped led to some tweakiness, this one led to none). So, confounding variables. All this said I feel quite strong right now and the limit bouldering seems to be bearing that out. Curious to see how campusing goes now.

Did my first campus session yesterday and matched my PRs in each workout I did, we will see what that leads to after a couple weeks of campusing...
