This is a great read on base training on the newly launched 'Uphill Athlete' website of Scott Johnston and Steve House. Compelling and clear writing about the purpose of base training, which could also be called 'capacity building'. www.uphillathlete.com/capacity-training-vs-utilization-training/This had the feeling of gospel to me, because I am being seduced by fantastic conditions in WV into going out and trying projects and difficult climbs for me right now. I can feel the need for a period of 'reinvestment' in terms of ARCing, moderate intensity bouldering volume, and a focused hangboarding season of 5-7 sessions to prepare for Christmas season sending in the Deep South. I have been building capacity for skiing and alpine climbing this winter with strength training and running. But climbing need to get back some capacity. I had thought of going out and performing as 'cashing in my chips'. Like patiently accruing income and then going out and spending it on whatever it is that you need or want.
