I just began the basic RCTM exercise plan and I am enjoying the feeling I get after an ARC workout. The only problem is that with my current situation, it's not practical for me to get out climbing 2 days per week for the outdoor mileage days. One day every 2 weeks for outdoor mileage is more realistic. What can I replace the outdoor mileage days with that will be valuable to my training so i don't feel like I'm doing nothing?

ARCing, or some other low-intensity, high-rep, technique-focused training will be your best bet. If you're ARCing a lot already, you might want to replace a few ARC workouts with something slightly different like Volume Bouldering (doing lots of "easy" problems back-to-back, without deliberate rest) or route climbing in the gym.

I am starting RCTM today and the first workout is Outdoor Mileage - 6 moderate pitches! Since I live in Montana, I am going to need to do all of my base fitness workouts in a gym for this first season. How would you translate OM 6 moderate pitches into an ARC session on an auto belay? Similarly the second workout is OM 4 moderate pitches. I want to make sure I get the progression/duration for each correct.

Carie, just skip to the first ARC workout if you can't get outside. For any future OM days, interpolate between the adjacent ARC workouts. Good luck!

Just as a point of reference from another fanboy: I rarely get to enjoy "outdoor mileage" days. They're great when they happen, but you can get plenty of the desired effect with indoor ARCing, assuming your gym is setup right.
The closest I personally get to "moderate outdoor mileage" is a day of handcracks at Indian Creek. Everywhere else local has too many climbers on the moderates!
