So... I found out today that I need to travel to Malawi next Wednesday for about a week and a half for work, which is basically the heart of my power phase. Ugh. I've managed to deal with work travel during the strength phase by using my rock rings, but I haven't been able to think of a good way to use the rock rings and a well-below average gym to create power-specific workouts. Any ideas that folks have used?

Wow, I had to look up Malawi to see where it is. If you don't have any bouldering there or any options to install campus rungs, you could try the Max R hangboard training. I did Max R training during a week long beach trip this past summer. Judging by a couple benchmark boulder problems, at best progressed a little, at worst I maintained all my power throughout the trip and didn't regress.

Thanks, Chris. I had totally forgotten about that section of the book. I'll take a look tonight and hopefully be able to use it with my rock rings to maintain...

Lundy, you mentioned that when you travel during strength phase you use your rock rings. i am about to travel to Puerto Rico for a week in the middle of strength phase and was not sure what to do in order to squeeze a workout in. By the looks of it I will have no time to go to the climbing gym, since it closes every day at 6 (!!!), but I doubt I will be free to do anything before 5:30. I was considering going to a crossfit gym a couple of times and doing supplemental exercises and crossfit workouts. Now that you mentioned the rock rings, I am thinking about it: Where do you normally find to hang them when you travel? I am assuming it would be hard to hang them in a hotel room? Do you do a hang board style workout on them with no pulley system and if so, what kind of grips, sets, reps do you train? Or are you just using them for supplemental exercises such as dips, ab rolls, pull-ups etc?(In which case I could just go to any gym and do that). Thanks!

For what it's worth, I modified a Blank Slate apparatus and mounted my RPTC to it when I was at the beach this summer. Also, Mike Anderson wrote a post on the sight about mounting his Forge by gluing metal brackets to the back of it. That would be as simple and portable as rock rings, but you'd have to find a way to mount them to a 2x[something]. I specifically schedule my strength phase to avoid any traveling, but I understand that sometimes it can't be helped for some folks.
