Hey guys, I noticed that the beginner campus workout has matching ladders and basic ladders using first large rungs and then medium rungs, yet max ladders only have medium rungs. Is that on purpose? I'm able to (barely) do max ladders (1, 3, 4) on large rungs but definitely not on medium rungs, on medium rungs I'm barely able to do basic ladders (actually the last workout was my first time completing the basic ladder on medium rungs). Should I be doing max ladders on large rungs or skipping that and trying to do it on medium rungs? Or just skipping max ladders altogether?
Thanks!

My sense is that the finger power benefits of campusing result from the difficulty of the edges. Doing max ladders on the large edges is more of a large muscle exercise (which is good to do, but a different goal). I would be tempted to do the max ladders on the large, because as you finger strength increases you will benefit from the engrams learned from the large rungs.

ha ha, i think their beginner campus workout is pretty stiff for us folks that put our pants on one leg at a time. for a lot of folks, i think they will need to start with max ladders on the big rungs and then transition to doing them on the medium rungs.

Depends on your training needs. Are you looking to get better at doing big shouldery moves....stick with the large rungs. If you re looking to get better at generating power off of worse holds go to the mediums or smalls.

Thanks joshvillen, I definitely want both but I can't do max ladders on medium rungs, so the question would be: should I do them on the large rungs in order to get to medium rungs or doing max ladders on large rungs won't help get me to do them on medium rungs?

it will help you. rome wasn't built in a day! i think it helps to get the moves dialed in on the big rungs first and try to smooth out the technical aspects. when i first started campusing (not long ago) i couldn't really do anything on the medium rungs, so i spent quite a bit of time trying to get things figured out on the big rungs. even with the big rungs you will still get a pretty substantial finger workout, particularly when you are just starting and your finger strength will have to compensate for little things like hitting the rung just perfect, etc.

Performing medium standard ladders with momentum is hard-- you need to really work in order to keep the flow, you have to pull immediately upon latching, dig deep, and explode upward. This is my main campus training goal. I can do 1 3 4 on smalls, but it is not explosive, so I think my efforts are better applied to the standard medium ladders with momentum. So, that is another criteria to bring in, and one that may well serve you well on mediums or large, keep the momentum flowing upward.
