So weights are expensive and I felt ripped buying weights just to hang off my pulley system so I picked up two 40-lb sacks of sand for a couple of bucks and filled gallon ziplocks with 5 lbs of sand.
I used my wifes kitchen scale to make sure each bag was about the same and then I duct taped the bag shut and reinforced the sides with duct tape as well.
I also made a bunch of 1 lb bags using quart ziplocks.
Then I attached a really beefy bucket to my hangboard setup and not adding-removing weight is as easy as tossing in some bags or removing them. Really fast and really cheap.
My wife does the hangboard with me during her rest and since the sand is so cheap we can even have two buckets already set to the correct weight so that we switch out during the rest period in between grips.
Anyway if anyone else thinks weights are pricey this is so cheap and easy.

That's an awesome idea, thanks for sharing! I've used gallon jugs of water in the past (about 8 lb each), but this sounds much better. Steel weights are ridiculously expensive.

that is a really, really good idea. i have a friend who is up in alaska for a couple months, in the middle of nowhere. i loaned him a hangboard and wrote up a plan for him. i am going to tell him about your idea - that will really be helpful for him. thanks for posting it!
