Hey guys, I'm loving the book. It is the first training routine I think I will be able to keep using with a job, family, kids, etc. Thank you for writing it!
I just have one suggestion. I would love to see an iPhone app for those of us who do everything digital. Even if it is only for filling in the workout logs. Just an idea. Thanks for everything!

John, Thanks! We would love to offer some sort of app. The problem is, we lack the programming skills to make that happen. ...and we tend to be really busy and somewhat lazy, so we haven't sought someone out to help us. Maybe if enough people ask, and it snows enough this winter, we will get around to asking someone for some help In the mean time, if anyone out there is itching to help us create an app, please let us know. Mark

I would also like to have an app for tracking the training and configuring the plan. Also it could have a functionality for the hangboard training (like the one beastmaker have for iPhone). It would be good to have it for Android as well and not only for iPhone. I would pay for it

Hi,
I use "Impetus" as an app for my android to help me through my hangboard workouts.
I will try to describe the program if you happen to download the impetus app.
My hangboard training is a 7 sec/3 sec hang/rest ratio, with 3 sets of 7 reps, 6 reps and 5 reps per hold, 3 min rest between sets (the advanced hangboarding). I use 6 holds.
So, what I do is I pick up a "tabata this" program of the impetus app and modify it as follows:
6 ROUNDS
>>Rest 3 minutes >>7 rounds >>>>0:07 work >>>>0:03 rest
>>Rest 3 minutes >>6 rounds
>>>>0:07 work
>>>>0:03 rest
>>Rest 3 minutes
>>5 rounds
>>>>0:07 work
>>>>0:03 rest
In this training total time should ammount to 1:12:00.
If you want, you can take one of the sets off (just choose which one) or modify the reps or change the work/rest ratio to 0:10/0:05. More/less holds equals to more/less rounds.
Also, you can reduce time between sets while maintaining the 3 minutes between holds (in that case, the second and third rest could be 2 minutes).
Hope this helps.
Tiago

Just had another quick thought on this. It'd be cool to have all of the routine sheets in one place. (For instance, on the iPhone, you don't really have an option for documents to store some scans of the pages.) But with an app, you could have those routines cataloged and accessible in one place to zoom in. That way you don't have to carry a scanned sheet or the book. Especially useful for outdoor limit bouldering or PE.

Mark Hey Mark. I'm your man, I have a strong IT background (10+ years, created a big array of web apps), love climbing + love the rock prodigy approach and I have some free time to work on this. Would love to help out and build something that people will benefit from wrt to their training! PM if you guys want to discuss more Pablo

Pablo,
I have a concept for a hangboard app. I tried to program it in JavaScript, but alas, my programming skills are not nearly as good as my CAD/CAE skills.
If you send me your email, I can shoot you off the PowerPoint concept (basically just images). This, of course, if you're interested.

Along the lines of an app, this is a template trello board for logging workouts (if you have an account (free), you can copy the board to your account and then use it). At the start of each phase, you make copies of the template cards for each workout you plan on doing, and then as you do them, you fill in info and drag them over to the done list. Add a new list when you start a new phase. trello.com/b/hsEKi97N/rock-climber-s-training-log

Hi everyone, I actually have developed an Android app for timing a hangboard training in the last months! It is currently still in the testing phase, but I hope to release it very soon (in 2 weeks time seems reasonable). With this app you can customize the number of Exercises, Sets and Reps, and select the amount of time for Work, Rest and Breaks (rest between sets). For convenience, it has 3 default training cycles, based on the beginner/moderate/advanced in the RCTM. I designed the app to have very clear visuals and sound feedback, such that you can easily use it in the gym. The app also shows hand grips (suggested by the RCTM) during the breaks of the training. The app has a full screen option to clearly see the time, has sound and vibration (both optional) feedback for timer start/end, and automatically pauses when you receive a phonecall. The first (free) upgrade of the app will also support logging the training performed using Google Fit. Since I spent quite some time in the development of this app, I will not distribute it completely for free, although you will be able to test the full functionality for free. The full version will be in the range of $0.99, which I think is a very reasonable price. So stay tuned! I will post an update here when it is on Google Play. Mark, I still wanted to ask you whether it is ok for you that this app has default workouts that are strongly based on the workouts that you described in the Training Manual. Since I really liked your book, in the app I would like to refer the users to your book, and this will be done by showing the following website as information (by a hyperlink, not in-app): www.trainingbeta.com/mark-and-mike-anderson-guide-to-hangboard-training/ . I hope you do not have issues with any of this, but if you have, or have suggestions on how to provide proper credits, please let me know.

Peter, sounds awesome! Will us lowly iPhone users have to wait a considerable amount of time for an iOS version?

Well, I just realised that posting this in an iOS topic could be a bit mean for non-Android users ;-) However, I do not own an Iphone, and neither would I have the time anymore to port/develop it for iOS. Sorry iPhone guys! If you are really desperate for an app, you could get a dirt cheap (second-hand) Android tablet/phone for a few $/€... The minimum requirements will be Android 4.0.
