Anyone climbed in the Saint George area in December? My wife and I are looking for a winter destination for this year, it seems that the best areas are in season during the spring.

I've been down there in January. Cold mornings, but hey, sleep in! Much of the climbing IN St. George faces south. The VRG should be just about perfect. Lime Kiln will be arctic.

I went there over the New Year's holiday in 2013/14 (I think). I suppose it depends on your temperature preferences, but if you ask me you want that place to be as cold as possible. There are crags, like the Cathedral, that are more Fall/Spring, but there's plenty of great stuff that bakes even in winter. The VRG is definitely an as-cold-as-possible place. I found Turtle Wall and Chuckwalla to be perfect-to-a-little-warm. Black and Tan was good in the shade that time of year. It depends a lot on wind, but if you want to go in December you should have plenty of great stuff to climb.

Erick, Are you still considering St George for December? If so, when?

My wife and I are headed down to Phoenix for Christmas so we will either be there from Dec 16-22 or 26-30. Are you thinking of heading there yourself?

erick It's looking like I might be headed down for the weekend. Things still have to solidify, but give a shout if you're around. Most likely arriving Friday.
