Alexandra - have you seen any results from the additional oils?

Chris, your comment reminds me of a trick Jon Siegrist talks about in a recent training beta interview. He uses tape and a stiff object to splint the backside of his affected finger, so that it cannot bend. Doing this in conjunction with climb on or what have you allows the skin to heal in a more stretched position so that once you start climbing on it, no undue additional strain is placed on the area. Think like a guitar string, which is much more likely to pop if tightened than when loose. Alexandra, for splits on the actual finger, this may be worth trying. But for splits between the skin and nail, the super glue and preventative measures route is the best success I've had.

Alexandra,
There are some very good suggestions in this thread. Unfortunately you really need to let your skin heal for 10 days if you split down to the point where it is bleeding. You will find that your wound will heal superficially and look ready to go after about 5 days but the collagen structure isn't at full strength, as well as the dermal layer has not totally healed yet. It may be worth getting a skin humidity tester. Ideally your skin should be about 30% moisture. While occlusives such as badger balm and Jtree are great at helping to maintain the proper environment for healing a wound, to prevent a split you may want to try a lotion that has water as the first ingredient.
Not to make a sales pitch but Rhino Skin Solutions Repair is formulated to provide the right amount of moisture to your skin to help it stay pliable and not split. Stay hydrated as well. Drink lots of water as this is the sure fire way to make sure you have the proper amount of moisture in your skin.
Photos of where the split is could help quite a bit.

I have somehow missed the last half of this thread. I took a somewhat long break from climbing and now I am back into it, struggling to get where I was before. Unfortunately, my first week back I got a split tip again right at the "half pad" position of the index finger... @climber 511: after your advice, I had actually stopped getting split tips for quite a long time! I guess I ll order the Rhino skin online now and see how it goes...
