I’m 59 and for the last two years I’ve been getting back into climbing after 20 year layoff. I train normally 3-4 times a week but definitely agree with stepping off the gas every 4th week at least. I do pilates twice a week and find that helps a lot with general recovery, gives a lot of stretching and core stuff. I’m retired now and basically train to hit a couple of trips away each year, mainly to Greece.
I definitely get much more knackered than I used to but was over the moon last year to send over 10 F7a, mostly flashed. It’s almost as hard as I was climbing back in the 80’s. I was targeting some F7bs this year but that might be a bit of a tough ask for this body now - I can’t do as much as I want but I reckon I’ll be climbing 6c/7a for a few more years yet.
If I feel like I need an extra day or so off then I’ll take it but my recovery this year is better than last and I’m a year older. So you never know, might hit that F7b one last time 👍
