We have the metolius contact board and it isn't one of the recommended boards in the book so I'm worried about it causing injury. I saw the suggestion of cutting it in half. We are totally open to trying that. Does anyone else have this board and if so, do you think the set up is safe? I've never done hangboard training before so I'm nervous about injury.

TJ, The Contact Board looks fine. I wouldn't use any of the holds in the middle though, unless you cut it in half and spread the halves apart. If you do that though, the holds on the outside will be REALLY far apart (unless you build an adjustable mount). It looks like there are enough holds in the "sweet spot" that you could get by without the middle holds. PS. The list of recommended boards was limited to boards we had actually used, and liked. If a board is not on that list, it could be that we tried it and didn't like it, or it could mean that we simply never tried it. Most of the time, if we never tried a particular board, it's because we looked at it and decided it wasn't worth trying, but sometimes we just didn't have the opportunity. If you read the selling points in this post, you can get an idea of which hangboard features I think are good or bad (WARNING: This may result in an uncontrollable urge to get an RPTC). You can use that as a checklist to help evaluate the quality of a given board. The Contact Board is relatively new, and I didn't find out about it until after the RPTC prototype was in production, so at that point I wasn't going back to a one piece hangboard for any reason. Obviously at this point I think the RPTC is head and shoulders above the rest (and we are hard at work to keep it that way), but that doesn't mean every other board is worthless.

Awesome! Thanks! I had considered that cutting it would make it too spread out in other areas so I'm glad to hear my instincts were right there. We REALLY want the trango but will have to make do with what we have for now (maybe it'll be a Christmas present next year . I totally understand that you can't test them all. There are a ton out there. I checked for some of the pitfalls the book mentioned and think it is good (although I'm new to this so I might notice something later on). Looking forward to starting tonight! Thanks again for your input
