I wonder if anyone here has had experience using the Gymboss (or any other brand) interval timer for hangboard workouts. It seems like it would be a suitable device for this purpose, but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually used one. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Haven't heard of it. I use a metronome app on my phone to count the seconds (by listening) and a stopwatch feature on my watch to time my rests.

Try impetus. It's perfect for all types of interval training.

Impetus is close to perfection for hangboard training. I've posted a "configuration manual" for hangboard training with impetus, under the "Iphone app" thread.

Yes, the Impetus app does seem to be ideal for timing hangboard sessions. However, the embarrassing truth is that I can't use it on my stone-age cell phone.
I took a closer look at the Gymboss website and here's what I found: They make two models of interval timers. The standard model ($20) only times two intervals; the "Minimax" model ($28) can do up to 25 intervals and has some other features that would make it much more useful for RCTM hangboard routines.
I'm going to keep looking to see if there are any other timers that might work for this purpose and post my findings here.

I have been using the gymboss timer for a few years, works great, easy to setup different timers based upon your needs.
One trick I learned is to set up an intermediate in the rest period of a set. Currently the interval timer beeps at the 2 second, and 3 second mark to alert me to the next hang in a set. If I did not have the intermediate interval, it can be hard to time the hangs properly.
IMO, if you are not using an interval timer and counting seconds, you stand to make a large improvement in consistency when you began to use one.

Definitely, for the first few workouts I counted seconds in my head and it's definitely easy to cheat...

I use Seconds Pro and love it... Thanks for these timing app suggestions! I have been using an analog wall clock that ticks for my hangs-- works ok, but I have not been timing my rests. Will try some of these out.

The App allows you to think less about the timing and concentrate on the hanging. I have mine so that the background is green during hang and turns red for rest so I don't even really need to know the seconds just watch for the color changes...

Boulder Trainer is an iPhone app that I've used that works quite well. You can create routines, edit exercise and rest times, label exercises, and share your workouts. It's by no means the only option but it has served me well and I didn't see it mentioned here.

For Android phones, I have developed an app specifically for hangboard workouts and other climbing exercises. The app is available in the Google Play Store: Climbing Training Timer. In the app you can customize the number of Exercises, Sets and Reps for your hangboard workout, and select the amount of time for Work, Rest and Breaks (rest between sets). For convenience, the app includes the beginner/moderate/advanced workouts as described in the RCTM (with permission from Mark Anderson). I designed the app to have very clear visuals and sound feedback, such that you can easily use it in the gym. The app can also show hand grips (suggested by the RCTM) during the breaks of the training. The app has a full screen option to clearly see the time, has sound and vibration (both optional) feedback for timer start/end, and automatically pauses when you receive a phonecall. The other timers in the app are useful for for example timing a rest period during campusboarding, doing rounds of bouldering, timing your ARC training, and performing general fitness exercises (core muscles training). Since I spent quite some time in the development of this app, the full version costs $/€ 0.99, much less than the Beastmaker app. The app does not contain advertisements, and a trial version to test the full functionality can be downloaded for free. When you like it, please review the app on Google Play. Happy training!
