I was perusing a similar thread made awhile back, but couldn't find specifics. I don't have access to a template campus rung I could take to the local woodshop and have duplicated. What dimensions/specifications should I ask for with my rungs. We've got a couple local guys that I KNOW would do a nicer job for less money than what I can afford to pay for the Metolius Rungs. I like Metolius (owned 2 of their harness), but don't want to be into Campus Rungs for $120+.
My board is approx. 15 degrees (give or take a degree).
I've only got 36" inches width and 82" of useable height.
Planning on 2 set of rungs, Med. & Large. Other than making my rungs approx. 16" long by 3/4" (medium rung) and 1" (large rung).
**Is there a certain router bit or bevel I should ask for or use? This is the part I don't know how to relay to the woodshop. Any suggestions or guide I could use to get the angle right??**
Thanks so much.

For a 36" wide board, I think the best method is something like what Patxi does pucseries.com/wp-content/uploads/img_4566.jpgYou would cut 2 6" pieces of each depth and place them as such: small, med, large, small, med, large (you can skip large and space it out a bit or do all three and keep them flush together). I would find a set of metolius rungs and draw the outline in order to get the radius correct. The three depths are .75", 1", 1.25" but the usable depths are typically a couple millimeters less. I don't think you're ultimately going to save much money

I would be into the Metolius rings for $160.00. 2 sets of five rungs/medium and 2 sets of five rungs large. I'm only going to do the Med. and Large rungs for now. They're not completely level...it's that bevel I need info. on. I don't have access to any Metolius rungs as a template, that's my issue.
I'd be willing to bet my local woodshop guy can do it for $80.00....Hopefully, we'll see!!

There are lots of pictures of various Campus Rungs out there in internet land - print a few end views and duplicate that. You basically cut the angle you want on the table saw - then route the edges down. A friend and I made up I think 5 sets of all 3 sizes in a few hours work at his shop. Drill and countersink the screw holes and you're ready to go. We used a planer to get the exact thicknesses we wanted and used hardwood because he had plenty laying around.

Metolius Small rung on the right. More context here.

I believe it's a 15 degree bevel on the inside of the rung. I've used a 3/8" roundover bit with good success on the outside. Make sure you do your roundover first, then back cut your bevel or the bearing on your roundover bit will give you problems. I've made a few sets but wouldn't likely bother if I wanted more. Better to get the numbered rungs from Tension and save the time for more climbing.

Exactly what climbnkev said.
Either: 3/8" roundover bit on outside edge for 1" depths or 1/4" roundover bit on outside edge for 1/2" rungs
Then: Use a bevel cut on the inside edge at whatever angle your board is (15 degree board = 15 degree bevel cut).
I made about 30 rungs for my home campus wall pretty easily this way. Took a bit of time but was a fun process (for me at least..)
