Does any one train one of these grip positions over the other? And if so why?
I have been training this grip over the SCC because I felt it may be more beneficial to climbing, but I have no data and haven't come across anything to prove otherwise.
If anyone has any input on this I would really like to hear their take on it.

Can you clarify? IMO the thin edge of the SVDER is a slopey crimp, so not sure what you're trying to compare here.

Ditto daustin. When I say "SCC", I mean "Semi-Closed Crimp", which is what most people around here call an Open Crimp (or something?). I intended the VDERs to be a SCC. Then there is the "Thin Crimp" or "Closed Crimp", which is the tiny horizontal edge on the RPTC/Forge.

In my mind semi-closed crimp is the same as a half crimp (pip joint at 90 degree angle). Open crimp is less aggressive than half crimp, but more aggressive than the "open hand drag".

I refuse to debate crimp definitions for the 50th time on this forum

But the OP refers to VDER (a hold type on a certain hangboard), slopey crimp (not a common phrase, but sounds more like a hold type than a finger position), and SCC (a finger position). I just don't know what the comparison is -- between holds used, how you grip the holds, or both?

Sorry for the confusion.
There is a slopey crimp on the forge hb along with the VDER. The slopey crimp allows for a bit of a thumb catch. This grip keeps the middle two in a SCC postion and the index and pinky are more open.
When training the VDER, you are typically using a SCC where all of the joint angles are similar.
So I guess which one would be more beneficial to climbing? Does anyone prefer on of these over the other?

I see. I don't use that hold. I think you should train whichever grip position you use most often outside, whether that's the VDER or the slopey crimp.
