Hey folks- My friend Bryant and I are starting a non profit climbing club, that we hope to turn into a great gym for training in our small college town. So far we have created an LLC, written the operating agreement, posted a blog, a FB page, and a FB group. We are hoping for between 40 and 50 members for the coming 9 months, and will look to rent a couple 1000 square feet in the summer and start building the gym. For now we are using our home walls as the resource to jump start the organization. Here is a relevant post. climbathens.blogspot.com/cheers! ted

good luck Ted. If it helps, you can look up these guys (link below). I stopped at their gym in my travels. Pretty cool place and a great concept. Im sure they could be a good source of information to aid in getting things going, etc. www.slo-opclimbing.org/about-us/

I have never been there but I was super impressed with their organization and how well their plan worked.

Interesting. when I read your post, this was where my brain went to. I went out there while on a Cali trip back in 2010 and tried out the gym. It was a really cool ,and genuine spot. Nothing commercial about it. I recently was back out in SoCal and went to their new gym and was blown away by how much they have grown. The coolest thing about the new spot was the fact that it still remained a tight-knit community of climbers. I really dig it when gyms have or can maintain that sense of community over commerRCTMkicksAssm.
best of luck to you, your partner, and local community!

My boyfriend opened a climbing gym (also LLC) with his partner in a small town in Illinois last year www.urbanaboulders.com. They did all the welding, wood work, floor etc themselves and they started an indiegogo campaign for initial funding. I sent you private message with more details but please feel free to contact me if you have any questions! I can put you in touch and get all the gory details Good luck!
