No, not the tendons. I've noticed over my last couple hangboard cycles that my pulleys have gotten a little gummed up with chalk. I could tell this was adding friction and making the pulley action a little irregular -- sometimes when I'd pull on it felt like I was getting an extra 'assist' from the friction, other times it felt like the weights weren't doing anything.
I finally overcame my laziness and gave the pulleys a couple squirts of WD40. What a difference! The pulley action was totally smooth and gave a consistent assist. In general, I think having the smooth pulleys made my workout a bit harder, but not dramatically. Mostly, it was just great being able to actually feel the difference between removing, 20, 25 or 30 lbs., for example.
With the number of people who post here, I'm sure there's a few of you that have pulleys that could use a little TLC. Lube 'em up!

Good call, I've definitely noticed when I remove weight the tension on the cord is "choppy". Lucky for me I did my last HB workout of the season yesterday, so I don't need to think about it again for several months!

My solution to the problem is to use bearing pulley like the one in use on sailboats. I actually use a couple of harken but there are many brands of different prices around. One thing I've noticed is that is still important to have a pulley with a good diameter to limit the friction even with bearings.

Mmmm not really, or at least here in europe I claim this really because I had to change my initial setup cause I discovered the pulleys where not on bearing and I had some friction. By the way sounds strange you have to put some oil on a bearing pulley
