Common thread between Moon and Haston appears to simply be the motivation to sacrifice and train to meet a big goal...

Absolutely. Honestly I think that's probably my biggest weakness at this point. Training has become quite convenient for me, so I'm happy to stick with that side of things, but I struggle to put in the same effort on the performance end. Fortunately I'm pretty patient when it comes to climbing goals, so I'm willing to wait and see if that side of things gets easier as my kids grow up.

I'm 54 and have been climbing for 34 years. I have a family and a career. Until a few years ago my focus was on all things trad plus skiing and biking. I've always been into training so when I decided reinvent myself as a sport climber I had some work to do. First I had to drop some weight (I had huge quads from nordic skiing, mt biking and too many Gym Jones workouts!) 2nd I had to endure loads of crap from my bros for going over to the "dark side". I've been thru 3 RP seasons with pretty amazing results. Now my friends want some training tips but don't seem willing to practice drop knees in my garage. But the point I want to make is this-I've accomplished more than I would have ever imagined when I started climbing and anything more is just frosting on the cake. So I'm really patient with my training and climbing goals. "Only" few a hard redpoints a season? -SWEET!
