I just figured something out - we are only an hour away from each other . I live about 40 miles north of Athens in Crooksville, Ohio. Small World! We need to get together some time. I am leaving on a 3 week trip but when I get back maybe we can get together? We have a climbing wall here in town and so does Athens I know (graduated from there).

Hey tedwelser , just wanted to follow up on your deep hold fitness approach: boulderingathenscounty.blogspot.com/2015/07/cultivating-deep-hold-fitness.htmlI had a few of questions if you don't mind: 1) Have you continued using Maxi-Pull workouts in your training regimen? If so, how do you incorporate it into your macro-cycle? 2) I'm thinking about installing a Maxi-pull setup, and probably only have space for one. It sounds like the 4-in PVC pipe provides a little more flexibility than the 7-in... if you had to choose one, would it be the 4-in? 3) Re: construction - anything you'd do differently than the construction method outlined in your blog post? 4) Any other lessons learned? Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! Hey daustin- 1. I used the Maxi-Pull workout during my winter season, but not in spring because I felt like I had arrived at a new level in terms of deep hold endurance and wanted to shift my attention more towards increasing power. This summer I am using the large pinch on the Forge as a deep hold jug (by grabbing over the top of it and holding both with the heel of my hand and my fingertips. I am able to work this grip in as a strength workout, and it is in the AC portion of my dojo. (the maxi pull does not have AC) 2. make the 4 inch version for sure, the 7 inch is more like a bad sloper and not as helpful for deep jug endurance. 3. The portable maxipull is the easiest and best to make, I think. here is the post, I will try to make the links to this easier to find on the blog. boulderingathenscounty.blogspot.com/2015/07/maxpull-trainer-on-portable-pull-up-bar.html4. The workout I have been using for Maxi-pull is the 45 sec rep / 15 sec rest; by 6 reps, and 3 sets. However, as Mark pointed out, that is super high TUT, and is not ideal to just throw that into the more intense training cycles. So, this fall I plan to integrate these in with my ARC cycle, and aiming for 60-70 min of ARC per workout, rather than the 85-90 that I did last fall season. So, I will probably do three ARC reps of (15, 25, 25 min), then do my Maxi Pull sets. Hope that helps! t

Thanks, Ted! Appreciate your reply, very helpful. Have you found the pinch-jug on the Forge stimulates the same muscles as the maxipull (obviously not exactly the same, but enough that the jug is actually training deep hold fitness)? I'm thinking about mounting a maxipull by drilling a hole in each end of the PVC and threading some cord through, as described by slimshaky
