....Is the one that happens while you sleep!
I've had a history of injuring myself while sleeping. Over the years I've had shoulder, neck and knee problems that only manifest after a night's sleep. All of this while otherwise performing relatively dangerous sports without too much incident during the day.
The most recent is some sort of terrible finger injury that comes at a perfect time; right at the beginning of my performance phase, after my first rock prodigy cycle where I've made great gains and even lost around 15lbs during my power phase. To top it off it's 3 days before a climbing trip. On Wednesday morning I woke up and could hardly move my middle finger, the second joint was extremely sore and stiff. I slowly started flexing it and the pain seemed to go away after about an hour, so I worked as usual and assumed it was just a fluke. Thursday morning I woke up to exactly the same thing, though it was a little more tender throughout the day. Then, Thursday night while I was hanging out watching TV and working on the computer it gradually became more and more stiff and painful, until I was back to being able to hardly move it. I taped it up last night to restrict flexion, and now this morning it's the worst it's been, almost impossible to flex beyond a couple of degrees.
I actually hadn't climbed since Monday this week due to work, so it's hard to imagine that it was directly related to climbing.
Partially, this is a just a rant so that I can vent about getting such a stupid injury right before a bouldering trip, and partially this is to see if anybody else has ever had anything this ridiculous happen to them. I seem to be able to hang with a completely open grip without much pain, so I'm pushing back the bouldering a day or two to see if it loosens up a bit. If it doesn't I will probably still go and see if there's any way to send my projects without bending the middle finger on my right hand.
