I'm coaching my 6-year-old daughter's soccer team. The league has split up the teams according to gender and (school) grade, so my team is 8 girls in 1st or 2nd grade. However, they have an odd number of boys teams and an odd number of girls teams in the 1st/2nd Grade divisions. To ease scheduling, they are having 100% boys teams play 100% girls teams. I would have zero problem with one mixed-gender team playing another mixed-gender team, but this Boys v Girls situation seems unfair (or at least ill-advised) to me. Am I a crazy, insufficiently woke old man?
I see three logical positions here:
1. 1st/2nd Grade Boys and girls are equal at soccer
2. 1st/2nd Grade Girls are superior to 1st/2nd Grade Boys at soccer
3. 1st/2nd Grade Boys are superior to 1st/2nd Grade Girls at soccer
If 1, then why segregate players by gender?
If 2, the matches are unfair for Boys
If 3, the matches are unfair for Girls.
Is this sort of thing common elsewhere? The league director tells me they've never done this before so they plan to "monitor it closely." Please tell me if I'm crazy or not, I'd really like to be self-aware of my slow decline into senility.

When I grew up, if there was an odd number of teams in the league, they just had one each round have a Bye. In case that world is not used in the USA - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bye_(sports)I would have thought it would make more sense to go across divisions or age groups, rather than gender. An opportunity for them to play a higher division and be exposed to soccer at that level perhaps?

My guess/vote would be #1. Sounds like they’re just flying by the seat of their pants, rather than making a deliberate point about gender equality. As long as they’re not running things in a way that sucks the fun out for the kids, I wouldn’t worry too much about it*. And I don’t think boys vs. girls would be a fun-sucking imbalance at that age.
*i feel like this sounds condescending but I don’t mean it that way at all!

You're not crazy; the world has gone crazy. Yes, this is happening everywhere, even in South Central PA, and it is getting worse.
The problem is modernism and moral relativism, and your bulleted analysis is frankly Thomistic (which is a good thing). We live in an age where sex and gender are supposed to be irrelevant, interchangeable and alterable. Boys vs girls soccer is a predictable product of this culture.
Your discomfort with the situation is a classic example of the universality of Natural Law.
