Ignoring the political aspects of the government shutdown...
I'm 90% certain I'll be furloughed tomorrow morning. Fortuitously, this coincides with my January training peak (which usually goes unused anyway). My climbing gear is packed, and my camping gear will be tomorrow morning. Anyone want to get out? Basically any location along I-15 extending down to Joshua Tree... PM me if you're down!

I (and at least one other out here) will also be furloughed unless Congress breaks my heart and suddenly decides to act like grownups. I can't (/don't want to) do a road trip, but if you come out to Denver I'm sure we can work you into the rotation.
Here's hoping for prolonged bickering!

My job gets much harder this time of year. You should take a road trip to South Central PA. Your presence as a guest from out of town would give me a great excuse to get outside. I can show you all the super-mega-classic-awesome rock we have here. I'm going to start ARCing for my spring season tomorrow morning, so instead of training in the barn you could belay me on multiple laps in a row of our local moderates. When we're done, you can come over to the house and watch the kids/help me fix the shower/drink beer/pick up toys/repair the heat strips in the kids room. I'll cook on the grill. Oh yeah, and if the bathroom smells like pee, don't worry, it's just pee. My oldest son will figure out how to hit the toilet right about the time my youngest son learns to hose off the floor.

Congress could have picked a better week for the furlough. I mean, I don't mind wading through waist-deep snow to get to the cliff, but why couldn't they check the forecast before shutting down the government? Is that too much to ask? Two days ago I was climbing shirtless, so it's going to be a shock to the body.

thanks for all the support, guys! Unfortunately (fortunately?) looks like I'll be back at work tomorrow. I (and at least one other out here) will also be furloughed unless Congress breaks my heart and suddenly decides to act like grownups. I can't (/don't want to) do a road trip, but if you come out to Denver I'm sure we can work you into the rotation.
Here's hoping for prolonged bickering! I'll keep that in mind for the next go around. Will it be warmer when we go through this again in February? My job gets much harder this time of year. Hmmm, tempting... Sounds like you need an ARC belay slave :-P Congress could have picked a better week for the furlough.
