Hey all,
I wanted to see what people's thoughts were on the standard (width) not depth of campus rungs?
I have been seeing more and more hung (all overseas and not in the states) that are wider. Ie. two exact same rungs butted next to one another to account for wider shoulders and workouts.
My initial intuition is that the "standard" width is to try to keep ones elbows from rising? and thus a better should stability? But who knows?
Probably y'all would
Thanks,

Normal campus rungs are less than shoulder width for me. This requires me to keep my elbows unnaturally close to my body and scrunches my shoulders. I would love another 6 inches/15cm of width

This is exactly the rationale for the post. Traditional width rungs are quite narrow for my shoulders too.
Just like the trango board improvement to split the board the same gains could be said about wider rungs???

I completely agree wider rungs are better. My board has 2 sets of rungs butted against each other, and while I try to stay on one set, I often overshoot and end up with a finger or two on the other rungs.

Biomechanically- I would say humerus in scaption with forearm vertical would put least pressure on things you don't want straining.
Slightly off topic as it's doubtful you could do this for a campus board but I've made myself a wooden device so to load each finger individually. It's something I copied from an old Alex Huber photo of his training setup at home (in his book). Basically its a short piece of 2 by 4 with a set of 4 holes positioned apart by about a cm in an arc and all drilled to the exact depth of each finger. Hopefully I'm explaining things ok?? Basically put the ends of thumb and all 4 fingers vertically on a piece of paper then draw around the fingers. This will be the template to drill out to the depth required for each finger. There is something similar on some commercial fingerboards but usually only for 2 fingers horizontally next to each other. I have each hand set up individually on a cord and use it as part of a homemade trx set up (with a petzl pulley) for pullups / inverted rows etc.

Agreed, seems like it would become an easy improvement from the metolius/tension/etc. and potentially less damaging to the shoulders and elbows?
RobF, maybe a photo would help?

Ah sorry- didn't realise I could upload photos / my phone doesn't give me the option. Hope this works / here it is: also have a couple monkey fist knots to do pull-ups with and my homemade trapeze pull up bar... Attachments:
