Work Capacity – Climbing Hard All Day Long (part 1)Work Capacity – Climbing Hard All Day Long (part 2)These will help with the conditioning aspect, although I never trained this much when getting ready for speed ascents. The key is to have the technical proficiency, decent cardio fitness, and an aptitude for suffering. My Valley Speed climbing training was done in the Cathedral Spires of the South Platte. Pretty decent hike, linking 4-8 routes in a day, often rope solo. Being fast at short fixing, jumaring, and cleaning pitches is more important than fitness. If you want to up the ante and go for a ascender less ascent then you had better be climbing 20+ pitches in a day up to mid 12 crack to be able to french free on lead and follow for 3K feet.
