Hey guys,
I have a 35 day (in between trips) block in which to train for an upcoming 4 week trip to the Red River Gorge and have set my sights on Transworld Depravity as I feel it suits my style (bouldery in between rests) It will potentially be my first of the grade (currently operating in upper 5.13 range).
I was wondering how you lot would split your phases. My initial plan would be 1 week of strength, 1 week of power and 2 weeks of long PE. Time is no object (student life) and I have access to all facilities stated in the RCTM.
Thoughts and feedback from any of you seasoned Motherlode hardmen would be much appreciated.

Hey LJ, I'm far from a motherlode hardman, but if you have four weeks for the trip, my guess is that you can get a lot of your PE fitness while you're there. As you surely know, every second on the rock at the Red is PE madness. As such, do you have the beta on the three boulder problems, and do you know if you have the strength and power to do them? If so, then your plan is probably good, but if you think you need to be crushing a bit harder to get through them, maybe do more S&P and just use your time on the route as your PE training...
Not super helpful, but that's the way I would think about it... I know Mark has sent the route, so he might have some additional thoughts.

Lundy,
I haven't got beta on the boulders (aside from pretty decent video) so that would be much appreciated from anyone! PE training while I'm there is a pretty good idea, as the book says 'the motherlode offers better training than most gyms', I'll just have to deal with the initial fitness low. I'll be coming off a trip to Flatanger so hopefully my endurance for steep stuff will already be decent.

If you wanted to setup your days to maximize the PE training benefits, I'm thinking you could warm up, jump on TD and work the boulders, then after a burn or two, jump on Bohica, Flour Power, or The Madness for a burn or two, and that will get your PE up quickly. Sort of a non-linear periodization program that has been discussed in other threads around here...
